Sydney Commercial Playground Association – History of Playground Equipment
A playground is a location built primarily to be a fun environment for children to be able to play carefree there. Modern playgrounds also have entertainment amenities, among many others, such as swings, slides, jungle gyms, sandboxes, monkey bars and trapeze rings. Playgrounds help kids improve physical coordination, strength, flexibility, and provide kids with a wonderful place to connect, entertain, and enjoy themselves. You may want to check out Sydney Commercial Playground Association for more.
For the establishment of playground facilities, school playground equipment, and preservation of public playgrounds for youngsters, both indoors and outdoors, the children’s playground league was founded in the US in 1903. This demonstrates how long playground equipment has been used and how much the equipment has improved is often reflected in this.
In 1907, in the US, President Roosevelt implemented public playground equipment nationally. He suggested that:
Owing to the risk, city streets are unsatisfactory playgrounds for children. Neither small back yards nor ornamental lawn plots meet the needs of all children but the very small children. Older children who can play intense games must have areas specially set aside for them and since play is a basic necessity, playgrounds should be given as well for each child as schools.
The services that are used for children have now advanced significantly. There used to be big metal slides, for instance, with a ladder to climb up at the back, can you picture kids sliding down a hot 10ft metal slide today? We doubt that so much. The merry-go-round that is being rare in playgrounds today due to security concerns was another thing that was in older playgrounds. Many of the machines used to be made of aluminum. It wasn’t until the 1970s that wood began to be used; there was still a lot of metal tubing involved, though. After those days, park safety levels have grown and to show that, so has the facilities.
